True Insight's Keynote Speech For ELI

February 2006

True Insight President Daniel Stein opened the Executive Leadership Institute (ELI) with a keynote presentation.

Once a year, the ELI offers CEOs, board members, and other executive staff opportunities to strengthen their leadership skills in learning activities designed by their peers. This second edition of ELI (February 27-March 1) took place in tandem with the National Conference of the Child Welfare League of America in Washington D.C. Daniel Stein's speech focused on bringing innovative business tools into the field of social services, some of which have been successfully applied to child welfare non-profits in California and New York.

The Business of Public Benefit - Why Child Welfare Should Consider Adopting Methods and Approaches From the Private Sector - by Daniel Stein:

"Child welfare is one of the most complex and challenging social service areas within the larger field of human services. Simply keeping pace with the rate of change is challenging enough. Given the various constraints under which many non-profits operate today, it is nearly impossible to act proactively to anticipate change and develop innovative solutions. By contrast, the private sector has embraced change in order to survive, and as a result, has often paved the way for innovation. This session will explore business methods that help understand core issues, find root causes, and create systems to reduce mistakes and improve performance. We will also consider some emerging trends and technologies that hold the promise for new solutions and radical change."
